Privacy Statement

This Privacy Policy is applicable to the Sierra Nevada Teen Ranch (SNTR) websites (the “Sites”) as well as to the activities and practices of the Sierra Nevada Teen Ranch offline. The Sierra Nevada Teen Ranch (collectively, “we” or the “SNTR”) respects the privacy of you and other users of the SNTR’s goods and or services and our Sites (“you”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect information from you offline and on our Sites and how we use such information.

Do We Collect Personally Identifiable Information About You?
We only collect personally identifiable information about you when you specifically and knowingly provide such information voluntarily. For example, we may gather personally identifiable information about you (including, but not limited to, your name, street address, telephone and facsimile numbers, email address, gender and ethnicity, disability status, level of education, profession, job title, and credit card information) during the following interactions:

  • During the SNTR donation process;
  • When you register for more information;
  • Whe you pu8rchase an item from SNTR, either in person, by facsimile or other paper-based order, or on the Sites;
  • When you participate in an SNTR survey, whether in person, offline, or on the Sites;
  • In connection with other content submissions and suggestions; and
  • When you submit a resume or other employment-related information to us.

SNTR will not disclose, divulge, or sell any information concerning our donors or their gifts to any person or organization. SNTR will always preserve the integrity and privacy of our online communications and transactions. Personal data including name, address, phone number, email address, birth date, and other information will be gathered electronically or by other means, accessed by other means, will only be accessed by authorized employees and only used for business purposes.

Donations and contributions made to the Sierra Nevada Teen Ranch are deductible under the IRS Code Section 501(c)(3) and 170(b)(1)(a)(vi) as stated in the determination letter issued to us. For this reason, contributions are non-refundable. SNTR recommends that contributors contact their legal or accounting representative regarding the tax deductions.

It is the intent of SNTR to fully comply with all laws and regulations regarding charitable contributions from our donors.

How Is Personally Identifiable Information Used?
We primarily use personally identifiable information to provide a wide array of products and services to you, to enhance your experience at our Sites, to enhance our services, and, if applicable to enhance your experience with SNTR. We will no sell or otherwise transfer personally identifiable information about you to third parties without your approval at the time we collect such information. If you change your mind regarding your preferences for the use of your data after we have collected it, you can contact SNTR at any time to notify us of your change in preference as set forth in greater detail below. We may employ independent contractors, vendors, and suppliers (collectively, “Outside Contractors”;) to provide specific services and products related to SNTR and our Sites, such as providing credit card processing and fraud screening, order fulfillment and shipment, mailing of SNTR publications and other materials, hosting and maintaining our advertisements on our Sites, and developing applications for our Sites. These Outside Contractors may sometimes have limited access to information collected from you, including your personally identifiable information, in the course of providing products or services to us. Access to your personally identifiable information by these contractors is limited to the information reasonably necessary in order for the Outside Contractors to perform their limited function for us. We also [require] that these contractors (i) protect the privacy of your personally identifiable information consistent with this Privacy Policy, and (ii) not use or disclose your personally identifiable information for any purpose other than providing us with products or services for which we contracted. We may disclose your personally identifiable information in special cases when we have reason to believe that disclosing this information is necessary to identify, contact, or bring legal action against you or someone else who may be causing injury to or interference with (either intentionally or unintentionally) the SNTR’s rights or property, other users of our Sites, or anyone else that could be harmed by such activities. We also may disclose personally identifiable information when we believe in good faith that the law requires it. We reserve the right to transfer information to a third party in the event of a sale, merger, or other transfer of all or substantially all of the assets of the SNTR, provided that the third party agrees to adhere to the terms of this Privacy Policy. We will notify users of any such transfer through notice on our Sites and through email. You should be aware that if you voluntarily disclose personally identifiable information (e.g., your name or email address) in email or other communications with third parties listed on our Sites or in other materials, that information, along with any other information disclosed in your communication, can be collected and correlated and used by such third parties and may result in your receiving unsolicited messages from other persons. Such collection, correlation, use, and messages are beyond our control.

What Non-Personally Identifiable Information Do We Collect?
You also should be aware that non-personally identifiable information and data may be automatically collected from you when you are visiting our Site through the standard operation of our Internet servers. Non-personally identifiable information collected from you when you are visiting our Site may include user IP addresses, browser types, domain names, and other anonymous statistical data involving the use of our Sites. Our Site also collects non-personally identifiable information through the use of “cookies.” Cookies are small text files that a website can use to recognize repeat users, facilitate the user’s ongoing access to, and use of, a website, allow the site to track usage behavior, and compile aggregate data that will allow content improvements and targeted advertising. Cookies are not programs that reside on a user’s system or damage files. Cookies work by assigning a unique number to the user that has no meaning outside the assigning site. If you do not want information collected from you through our use of cookies, there is a simple procedure in most browsers that allows you to deny or accept the cookie feature; however, you should note that cookies may be necessary to provide you with certain features available on our Site.

How is Non-Personally Identifiable Information Used?
We may use non-personally identifiable information collected from you and other users to perform statistical analysis of user behavior and characteristics. We use this information to measure interest in and use of the various areas of the Site and to inform advertisers of such information as well as the number of users that have been exposed to or clicked on their advertisements. We provide such non-personally identifiable information to third parties, but only in an aggregated form.

Is My Information Secure?
We want your information (including personally identifiable information) to remain as secure as possible. We use commercially reasonable security measures to protect your information, including, but not limited to, physical security and restricted access to information. With regard to online security, we strive to provide secure transmission of your information from your computer to our servers through industry-standard techniques. To help ensure the integrity and privacy of the personally identifiable information you provide to us via the Internet in connection with credit card transactions, we generally use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology in transmitting such personally identifiable information over the Internet to our servers. We secure the personally identifiable information you provide on servers located in controlled environments that adopt commercially reasonable security measures. Only employees or Outside Contractors who need access to your information to perform a specific task or function are granted access to such information. In addition, all SNTR employees must abide by this Privacy Policy. Any SNTR employee who violates this Privacy Policy is subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination. Notwithstanding the above commitments to protect your information (including personally identifiable information) from loss, misuse or alteration by third parties, you should be aware that there is always some risk involved in transmitting information over the Internet. Additionally, there also is some risk our security systems could be circumvented or breached. As a result, while we strive to protect your information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security and privacy of any information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk.

Does This Privacy Policy Apply To Third Parties?

Do You Have A Choice Not To Receive Promotional Offers?
It is the policy of SNTR, whenever possible, to offer you the opportunity to indicate whether you would like to “opt-in”; to receiving promotional and/or marketing information about other products, services, and offerings from the SNTR and/or any third parties at the point of data collection. SNTR will include personally identifying information of individuals attending the programs in the program directories unless they expressly opt-out. SNTR may, from time to time, adopt an “opt-out” approach with respect to certain other uses of personally identifiable information. If you previously have opted-in to use of your personally-identifying information for a particular use and then change your mind, or you did not opt-out and you then change your mind, upon your reasonable request, you may later opt-out of receiving promotional communications from the SNTR or any of our third-party partners or affiliates at any time. You may do so either (i) by sending an e-mail to marvinn@sntr.org; or (ii) by changing your profile in the personal profiles section of the Sites. Please note that if you decide to opt-out of receiving promotional information or other communications after you have previously opted-in, your change in preference will only affect future contacts; if the information has already been provided to third parties they may continue to use it. Even if you do not opt-in to receive promotional information or you have opted-in and then later choose to opt-out, we reserve the right to contact you as necessary in our sole discretion regarding your established business relationship with SNTR, any request you have made for services or products from SNTR, changes to this Privacy Policy, and any other matters that may be relevant to the information we collect.

How Can You Update, Correct, Or Delete Personally Identifiable Information?
Upon request, we will use reasonable efforts to allow you access to update or correct personally identifiable information that you have submitted if you state that the information is erroneous, to the extent that doing so will not compromise our security or other interests. Also, upon your request, we will use reasonable efforts to remove your personally identifiable information from our database; however, please be advised that it may not be possible to delete all such information without some residual information remaining due to back-ups and records of deletions and that we are unable to delete information from third-party databases.

What Information Is Collected From Children?
We believe it is important to protect the privacy of children. Our Site is not designed for or directed to, children under the age of 13. We do not collect personally identifiable information from any person we actually know is under the age of 13.

Will SNTR Change This Privacy Policy?
This Privacy Policy is effective as of August 1, 2007. We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy at any time by notifying users. We may notify you by posting a notice on the Sites or by contacting you through electronic mail or other means. Your continued use of SNTR’s services, including but not limited to the Site, following the posting of changes to the Privacy Policy means that you accept those changes.

What If You Do Not Agree To The Terms Of This Privacy Policy?
As a donor to the SNTR, or by otherwise using the services of SNTR, including but not limited to the Site, you signify that you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to this Privacy Policy, please do not provide any personally identifiable information to SNTR in connection with your donations or otherwise, or make any other use of the services of SNTR, including but not limited to the Sites.
